Overview:
Big River Builders is looking for a highly motivated and skilled trim/finish carpenter to add to our team! Big River Builders is a family-owned local residential construction company that specializes in custom home building, design, remodeling, custom carpentry, fine finish carpentry, and woodworking.

This position offers the opportunity to work on high-quality custom homes while growing within a collaborative, detail-focused team.

​

Responsibilities:

1. Interpret construction plans and shop drawings and translate them into accurate field layout and finish work.

2. Prep materials including measuring, cutting, fitting, and sanding.

3. Install finish carpentry items such as baseboards, casings, crown molding, doors, door hardware, stair components, built-ins, cabinetry, and custom woodwork.

4. Perform finish millwork and detail work including coping, scribing, miters, biscuit joints, and joinery to tight tolerances.

5. Execute wall and ceiling finishes such as shiplap, beadboard, decorative paneling, and trim-integrated features.

6. Carry out carpentry repairs and adjustments for windows, doors, floors, and trim to ensure proper fit and operation.

7. Operate and maintain hand and power tools safely, including routers, planers, table saws, miter saws, nail guns, and finish sanders.

8. Maintain clean, safe job sites including daily cleanup, material staging, and proper disposal of waste.

9. Coordinate with Project Managers and other carpenters to sequence finish work and meet schedule milestones.

10. Document work and communicate progress and issues clearly to the Project Manager.

11. Support other trades and perform general handyman tasks as needed to keep projects moving.

 

Preferred Non-Carpentry Skills:

1. Basic finish painting and staining skills including brushing, rolling, spraying, and shop lacquering.

2. General handyman skills such as basic plumbing, electrical hookups, fixture installation, caulking, and trim-level drywall patching.

3. Ability to perform multiple trade-adjacent tasks to keep small crews efficient and responsive on-site.

 

Requirements:

1. Minimum of five years of experience as a carpenter.

2. Must be at least 18 years of age.

3. Valid Driver’s License.

4. Must be able to travel outside of the Bismarck/Mandan area – no overnight stay.

5. Strong communication and organizational skills.

6. Self-motivated, reliable, and able to manage time and tasks on-site.

7. High attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
